CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

Advances in Gas Interchangeability and Gas Quality Specification Reform

The characteristics of natural gas supply in the U.S. are rapidly evolving as conventional sources are depleted and new sources, including LNG, CBM, shale/tight gas, and other unconventional sources are developed. Direct receipt of unprocessed gas by transmission systems has become a significant issue, contributing to this change in the composition of flowing supplies. Platts Gas Interchangeability and Quality Forum brings together more than 25 gas production, processing, pipeline, distribution, and end-user perspectives to examine the realities of achieving gas compatibility and the progress of industry efforts to date.

Hear from a distinguished panel of gas interchangeability/quality experts from:
AEP, Duke, FPL, Southern Natural Gas, KeySpan, Shell, Sempra, Questar, BP, Panhandle Energy, WPS Resources, Calpine, Chevron, GE, Siemens Westinghouse, INGAA, FERC, DOE, AGA, IPAA, Ohio Oil & Gas Association, Southwest Research Institute, Gasunie Engineering and Technology, Navigant Consulting

about how gas interchangeability/quality issues affect all in the gas value chain:

  • Producers—Satisfying revised pipeline tariff, safety, and environmental requirements while still meeting increasing gas demand
  • Processors—Possible long-term specification requirements for gas quality. What kinds of plant reconfigurations might be needed? Will contracts need to be renegotiated?
  • Pipelines—Will new gas accepted for delivery make existing product unacceptable to LDC’s and other end-users?
  • LDC's—Impacts on end-user equipment. Who will pay for technology to remove or extract hydrocarbons? How do you manage possible appliance change-over for new gas?
  • Power generators—Impacts on equipment and operational reliability, especially turbines (NOx, unburned hydrocarbons, and CO2 emissions)
  • End-users—Changes in uniformity of gas quality for appliances, industrial applications, including use of gas as a feedstock for chemical manufacturing
