With much of Europe’s nuclear power capacity ageing or facing enforced phase-out, how will Europe keep this carbon-free source of electricity meeting growing needs? While new nuclear build is a hot topic in political circles, agreement is needed on how to restructure the industry to enable a smooth nuclear takeoff — how can we keep existing systems alive? What should the balance be between retrofitting existing systems and new build? Can the European industry really encourage and support new build investment?
Platts European Nuclear Power conference will not only look into the plans and possibilities for new build, but also into how to bridge the gap between now and when the new build era begins in earnest. Bringing together key players from the utility and vendor sectors, legislators, engineers, and academics, this conference will provide a comprehensive outlook for the European nuclear Industry, highlighting investment opportunities and barriers.
Topics will include:
- The EC’s Energy Policy 2007 — Implications for nuclear power
- Can we make existing systems last until the new build era?
- New build — Facing the challenges ahead
- Can Europe encourage nuclear investment?
- What does the future hold for regional expansion?
- Financing nuclear power build — Subsidies VS investments
- Planning, permitting, and uprate — Implications for existing plants and new build
