Niamh Brooks is associate editor of Platts Global Power Report. She joined Platts in 1999 as a market and news reporter on the European power and natural gas desk, and took her current role in 2001 in the New York office. Prior to working for Platts Niamh held an editorial position on newsletters at Financial Times Energy in London. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from University College London. Niamh is based in Platts' Canary Wharf office in London.
Peter Maloney is the chief editor of Platts Global Power Report. He has been covering the private power industry since 1989. His previous experience includes writing, editing and reporting articles on the banking industry for U.S. Banker and on the stock market for Institutional Investors' Portfolio Letter. Mr. Maloney was the recipient of a Jesse H. Neal award for editorial excellence in 1990 while at U.S. Banker and an editorial excellence award from McGraw-Hill in 1996 for The Global Utility Book.
Ross McCracken, editor of Energy Economist, joined Platts in 1999 to run the European and West African crude desk. He was previously an editor with an Oxford University-based political and economic consultancy, and has taught in Poland and China. He holds a master's degree in European studies from the London School of Economics and his undergraduate degree is from the University of East Anglia.
Richard McMahon, Jr. is executive director, energy supply for the Edison Electric Institute and has responsibility over EEI's Alliance of Energy Suppliers. In addition, he directs the industry's Wall Street activities, investor relations, and finance initiatives. He previously served as EEI's director, competitive strategies and policy in EEI's Energy Services Group, was the founder of the EnviroTech Venture Capital Fund, and worked in management positions at the National Association of Securities Dealers in the NASDAQ stock market. He holds a BA and MBA in finance.
António Luis Guerra Nunes Mexia was appointed to the board of directors of EDP—Energias de Portugal, S.A.—as chief executive officer, in March 2006. Between July 2004 and March 2005 he served as Minister of Public Works, Transportation and Communications of Portugal's 16th Constitutional Government. Mr. Mexia was CEO of Galp Energia, between 2001 and 2004, and chairman and CEO of Gas de Portugal and of Transgás between 1998 and 2001. In 1990 he joined Banco ESSI, the Investment Bank of the Espirito Santo group, and served as a member of the Executive Board of Directors in charge of the Equity Capital Markets and Project Finance divisions until 1998. Previously, he was vice-chairman of ICEP, and assistant to the secretary of state for foreign trade between 1986 and 1988. He holds a degree in Economics (1980) from the University of Geneva.
Richard Saines heads the US arm of Baker & McKenzie's Global Climate Change and Emissions Trading Practice Group. Mr. Saines advises multinational companies, financial institutions, funds and project sponsors on carbon and environmental market transactions under the Kyoto Protocol, EU ETS and voluntary markets. He also advises major global corporations in the area of climate change policy, sustainable development and global corporate greenhouse gas management.
Anne Selting joined Standard & Poor's in 2003 and is a director in the utilities, energy and project finance group. Based in San Francisco, she is responsible for analyzing the credit profiles of investor-owned utilities, public power companies and electric cooperatives. Anne came to Standard & Poor's with over 11 years of experience in the electric industry. She is a former power manager for Hetch Hetchy Water & Power, a public power entity within the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and worked extensively in energy consulting, including National Economic Research Associates (NERA). Ms. Selting holds an MS in applied economics from the University of Minnesota and has completed PhD coursework in resource and agricultural economics at the University of California, Davis. She earned her BS degree with high honors at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is a member of the California Society.
Charles Tooman is a managing consultant with PA Consulting Group. He has broad experience developing and implementing comprehensive energy risk and business management programs. Mr. Tooman is experienced in derivatives execution, is Series 3, and is commodity trading advisor certified. Charles has a BA in economics from the University of Colorado, an MA in economics from the Claremont Graduate University, and an MA in international relations from the University of Colorado.
