A 50-50 partnership made up of EdP Energias do Brasil and MPX Energia has begun commercial operations of the first 360 MW unit of the Porto de Pecem coal-fired power plant in Brazil's Ceara state, Energias de Portugal said Monday. Output from the installation, located at Sao Gancalo do Amarante, is being acquired by Pecim Energia under a 15-year power purchase agreement entered into in 2007. A second 360 MW coal-fired unit is currently nearing completion, according to Portuguese power producer EdP, which owns 51% of Energias do Brasil.--Henry Cybulski, newsdesk@platts.com --Edited by James Leech, james_leech@platts.com
