China Shenhua Energy's Oct coal output up 2.1% on year at 23.9 mil mt

China Shenhua Energy's production of commercially-ready coal rose 2.1% year on year to 23.9 million mt in October, the listed subsidiary of China's Shenhua Group said Friday.

It produced 254.8 million mt of commercially-ready coal over January-October, up 9.2% from a year earlier, the company said.

The company's coal sales in October totaled 40.7 million mt, up 30.9% year on year. Exports comprised 100,000 mt of the total, down 80% over the same period.

Over the first ten months of 2012, Shenhua Energy sold 370.6 million mt of coal, up 16.7% year on year. Of that, exports comprised 2.9 million mt, down 40.8% from the year-ago period.

The company imported 800,000 million mt of coal in October and a total of 6.5 million mt over January-October. It did not import any coal over January-October 2011.

Shenhua Energy did not provide a breakdown between thermal and coking coal. It has a coking coal mining capacity of around 20 million mt/year, mainly from Shenhua Group subsidiaries Shenhua Wuhai Energy in Inner Mongolia and Shenhua Ningxia Coal Mining Group in Ningxia, while its thermal coal mining capacity is not clear.

Shenhua Energy generated 16.23 billion kWh of electricity in October from its captive power plants, up 2.5% year on year. Over January-October, its power generation totaled 171.86 billion kWh, up 9.4% from a year earlier.
