Spain's and France's transmission system operators will offer around 20% of capacity on the Larrau-Biriatou link between the countries in an auction held next month, a spokesman for the auctioneer told Platts Tuesday. The auction will take place December 12. The auction was approved Monday by a publication in Spain's official state gazette, the Diario Oficial del Estado. Capacity on the link between the two neighbors is 3.1 billion cubic meters/year from France to Spain and 0.9 Bcm from Spain to France. Capacity is due to be expanded to 5.2 Bcm in each direction, according to data from Spanish transmission system operator Enagas. Enagas is managing the auction with French counterpart TIGF. The product on offer will cover the period April 1, 2013-March 31, 2014. According to a prospectus issued by Enagas, 33,000 MWh of Spain-France capacity will be available between April 2013 and October 2013 while 18,480 MWh/day will be available for the full year April 2013 to March 2014.--Gianluca Baratti, newsdesk@platts.com --Edited by Martin O'Rourke, martin_orourke@platts.comSimilar stories appear in European Power Daily.
