Brazilian ferrous scrap exports up 14% in November: agency

Brazilian ferrous scrap exports rose by around 14% in November from October, according to new data released by the country's customs agency.

The numbers showed that last month 52,069 mt of scrap were exported from Brazil, versus 45,761 mt in October. This also more than doubled the 22,836 mt exported in the same month last year.

Most of the November exports -- 47,909 mt -- were shipped to Asian countries, versus 39,266 mt in October.

"We are holding large inventory levels, because domestic mills have reduced buying," said a local scrap dealer.

As previously reported, representatives of the Brazilian scrap metal companies have begun discussions with government representatives to block an export tax proposal by the Brazilian Steel Institute.
