Premiums for primary aluminum to be exported to Japan in the first quarter of 2013 have been settled at $240-245/mt plus London Metal Exchange cash CIF Japan, down from $254-255/mt plus LME cash CIF Japan for Q4, according to Platts assessments.

Platts has confirmed 10 settlements at $240/mt plus LME CIF Japan, five at $242/mt, one at $243/mt, three at $244/mt and two at $245/mt.

Each was for over 500 mt/month shipments of minimum 99.7% aluminum standard primary aluminum ingot, sows and T-bars to be exported to Japan from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and North America in Q1 2013.

The premiums are set on the basis of the London Metal Exchange cash contract price of the loading month, CIF main ports Yokohama, Nagoya or Osaka. Payment terms are typically cash-over-documents for exports to Japan.
