China's gold output rose 11.7% year on year to 403.05 mt (14.2 million oz) in 2012, making it the world's biggest gold producer for the sixth year in a row, the China Gold Association said Wednesday.

The top 10 producing provinces -- Shandong, Henan, Jiangxi, Yunnan, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Fujian, Hunan, Shaanxi and Anhui -- contributed 82.71% of the country's total output for 2012.

China overtook South Africa as the world's largest gold producer in 2007, producing 276 mt of gold in the year against South Africa's 272 mt. China's annual output has risen progressively since then, from 282 mt in 2008, 314 mt in 2009 and 341 mt in 2010 to 360.95 mt in 2011.
