US Northeast spot gas prices see another jump on cold weather

US Northeast spot natural gas prices saw another surge Wednesday on more low temperatures forecast for the region, with Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line zone 6-New taking over the premium price in North America.

The New York point jumped $2.50 to average in the low $17.40s/MMBtu on IntercontinentalExchange. That widened its premium to Transco zone 6-non New York to $13.07 as non New York moved up 28 cents to average in the mid-$4.30s/MMBtu on ICE.

New York City was forecast to see a high temperature of 35 degrees Thursday, about 9 degrees below the seasonal norm.

New England prices also saw significant rises on similarly cold weather, with the Algonquin Gas Transmission city-gates jumping $2.38 to average around $16.50/MMBtu on ICE. Tennessee Gas Pipeline zone 6-200 Leg rose $2.27 to average in the high $16.30s/MMBtu.

Dracut, Massachusetts, saw an increase of about 17 cents to average in the low $16.10s/MMBtu.

Iroquois Gas Transmission, zone 2, saw the largest jump, rising $3.74 to average in the mid-$15.50s/MMBtu on ICE. Meanwhile, upstream Iroquois, receipts, saw a drop, coming down 13 cents to average in the high $4.70s/MMBtu.
