US natural gas in storage fell 38 Bcf to 3.873 Tcf for the week that ended Friday, the US Energy Information Administration said Wednesday in its weekly report. The report was issued a day earlier because of the US Thanksgiving holiday. The net withdrawal was above consensus expectations of a draw between 23 Bcf and 27 Bcf. But EIA said that reclassification of data from working to base gas in the producing region resulted in a reduction of estimates of working gas stocks by about 7 Bcf for the week that ended Friday. That effectively increased the net withdrawal to 38 Bcf from 31 Bcf. Article continues below... A year earlier, EIA reported a 9-Bcf injection to storage. As a result, the 71-Bcf surplus to the year-ago level fell to 24 Bcf, while the 209-Bcf surplus to the five-year average of 3.705 Tcf fell to 168 Bcf. EIA reported a 19-Bcf withdrawal in the East to 2.054 Tcf, compared with 2.091 Tcf a year ago, a 7-Bcf withdrawal in the West to 544 Bcf, compared with 513 Bcf a year ago and a 12-Bcf withdrawal in the producing region to 1.275 Tcf, compared with 1.246 Tcf a year ago.
