EU gas grid operators' group Entsog has started a consultation on its 2011-20 European network development plan that envisages Eur90 billion ($127.8 billion) spent on new grid development to 2020. The plan was published in February. Entsog said the consultation would aim to collect opinions to further improve the plan. Entsog held a stakeholder workshop on the plan in Brussels on March 17. "We have had very positive experience with working with stakeholders and we are looking forward to receiving further feedback on the Ten-Year Network Development Plan," said Entsog General Manager Vittorio Musazzi. The plan aggregates cost estimates provided by project sponsors according to infrastructure type and whether a final investment decision had been taken in order to protect commercial confidentiality. For confirmed projects where final investment decisions have been taken, the totals are Eur13.7 billion for transmission, Eur4.3 billion for storage and Eur3.6 billion for LNG infrastructure. For unconfirmed projects as of September 2010, the totals are Eur58.6 billion for transmission, Eur2.6 billion for storage and Eur6.6 billion for LNG. But the real totals would be higher, as Entsog did not receive cost estimates for several storage projects, both confirmed and unconfirmed, nor for the unconfirmed Fos Cavaou or Montoir LNG terminal projects. Entsog is required by the EU's 2009 third energy market opening package to produce 10-year European network development plans every two years.
