Brazil exported 3.04 billion liters (804 million gallons) of ethanol in 2012, a surge of 55% over 2011 to the highest level since 2009, data released by Brazil's ministry of foreign trade showed Wednesday. In December, Brazil shipped 462.1 million liters of ethanol, the second highest monthly volume in 2012 and a record high for the month. The main buyers of Brazilian ethanol in 2012 were the US, Jamaica, South Korea and Japan, according to data from Brazil's ministry of foreign trade.
