Ports on the US West Coast remained in normal operation Friday despite the tsunami that has hit Hawaii following a massive earthquake off Japan. "Right now, everything is operating as normal," said John Shea, control center operator at the Port of Long Beach. "We are on tsunami watch and it is still two hours away. We are hearing in Hawaii that swells there are at a maximum of three feet." "There is currently just a tsunami advisory for Southern California, nothing more," Sandy Needle, US Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach search and rescue controller, said from its San Pedro, California headquarters. The ports of Seattle and San Francisco also said there was no disruption to operations due to the tsunami.--Tom Sosnowski, thomas_sosnowski@platts.comSimilar stories appear in Oilgram News.
