Larry Chorn is a 25-year oil and gas industry professional with international experience in petroleum economics and finance, reservoir engineering, reserves management, and capital budgeting.
Prior to joining Platts Analytics as Chief Economist, he was a faculty member at the Colorado School of Mines in Petroleum Engineering. He has consulted for more than 25 international oil and gas companies on investment and economic issues since his departure from regular employment with Mobil Oil Corporation in 1998.
His industry experience at Mobil includes Research and Development Planning Manager for the worldwide E&P organization, reserves economics advisor for the worldwide portfolio, manager of the Long Range strategic planning model, and economics advisor to Mobil's New Venture (Mergers and Acquisition) organization. During his career at Mobil he earned an MBA in finance and strategy from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
He began his career as Principal Research Engineer for Atlantic Richfield Corporation after completing a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois. He was lead engineer for the implementation of drag-reducer in the Trans-Alaska pipeline, raising the capacity from 1.1 MMbbls/day to 1.7 MMbbls/day with no capital investment.
