Dave Ernsberger was appointed as Platts' editorial director for Asia in November 2003, assuming a new position within the Platts editorial group that underscores the commitment of Platts to furthering its business objectives in Asia. Dave, who is a regular speaker on oil and energy issues on Asian TV stations and at industry conferences, also oversees all Platts editorial segments in Asia -- oil, power, petrochemicals and metals -- and helps manage the company's ambitious growth plans for the region. Currently, Dave is responsible for managing Platts' editorial and analytical groups in Singapore, Japan, Australia, the Philippines, and China.
Dave began his Platts career in 1996 as a metals reporter in London, covering the base metals, ferroalloys and precious metals in Europe and Africa before rising to the position of Managing Editor of Platts' London metals group. In January 1999, Dave took on responsibility for Platts' new European power start-up ventures as editor-in-chief, launching coverage of the deregulating electricity and natural gas markets in the European Union.
In 2001, Dave relocated to Houston as bureau chief, where he managed Platts oil, gas and electricity reporting, guiding coverage of important industry events ranging from the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the US to the Enron crisis. He also served as a high-level representative of Platts to the Houston energy industry as Platts began a series of important new market coverage initiative in gas, electricity and oil coverage.
Dave has a Bachelors' degree in Philosophy and Politics from Warwick University, England, and a Masters' degree in International Relations from Southampton University, England.
