Electric Power Methodology and Specifications

Clearly defined and transparent methodologies are the backbone of Platts' price assessment processes. Platts' methodologies provide detailed descriptions and explanations of how we assess the market value of commodities so that customers and other interested parties understand those processes. In this section, we post documentation by commodity and region for all published price assessments and indices.

European electricity assessments and indices

This guide elaborates on Platts assessments for Europe, as well as information for spark spreads, PEP and CONTI indices, cross-fuel comparisons and coal switching price indicator.

North American electricity methodology

(as of March 2016)

The following North American electricity specifications guide contains primary price point specifications and methodologies for Platts' electricity assessments in North America. Prices are reported in $/MWh.

European emissions methodology

(as of October 2016)

Platts' European emissions methodology for its published price assessments reflects its experience in the more established oil, gas and power markets.

M2MS -- Power methodology

North American emissions methodology
