Platts Global Benzene Price Index

A key ingredient to styrene, used in packaging, various plastics, nylon and other textiles.

The chart above shows the daily end-of-day Platts Global Benzene Price Index price in red and also displays the 20-day moving average in blue.

Global benzene prices dropped in January, reversing their course after a steady run-up in the previous few months. Benzene posted the largest drop of the seven components in the Platts Global Petrochemical Index (PGPI), a benchmark basket of seven widely used petrochemicals.

The Platts Global Benzene Price Index fell 4% in January to $1,431 per metric ton (/mt), down from $1,495/mt in December, according to the just-released monthly average of the PGPI. The price drop was largely driven by oversupply, as demand from styrene manufacturers slowed during the month.
