Capitol Crude: The US Oil Policy Podcast

The US isn't the only partner available to assist in Mexico's hydrocarbon reforms

March 27, 2017 (25:18 mins)

Brian Scheid and Meghan Gordon

Capitol Crude looks to Mexico, where reform is upending the energy sector at a time when its relationship with the US could be on the cusp of a change. Senior oil editors Meghan Gordon and Brian Scheid talk with Lourdes Melgar, Mexico's former deputy secretary for hydrocarbons and currently the Robert E. Wilhelm fellow at MIT, who explains that if the Trump administration launches a trade war, Mexico has options.

Expect to see more Chinese and Russian companies drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, higher prices for US refiners and more shipments of Mexican crude to Asia and Europe if Trump’s rhetoric on renegotiating NAFTA becomes reality, Melgar says.
