Not so careless whispers: global steel prices whammed by summer downturn

July 28, 2015 (11:01 mins)

Chris Davis, Peter Brennan, & Sebastian Lewis

With Chinese hot rolled coil (HRC) prices at the lowest they've been since we started assessing them in 2006, and US scrap prices down $20 month on month, the intrepid trio of Peter Brennan, Chris Davis, and Sebastian Lewis congregate to ask just how low steel prices can go? They debate the astounding impact of the fall and rise of the stock market in China on the metals complex, the slightly more positive outlook for housing and construction across China's regions, and what it all means for iron prices. Furthermore, Peter outline why the European steel market is not unlike the infamous Norwegian Blue Parrot in Monty Python - no ones sure if it's dead, or merely sleeping.
