After US MTBE prices hit nine-month lows, Q4 demand could provide stability

October 27, 2015 (3:51 mins)

Production costs for MTBE frequently rise in the fourth quarter as butane demand rises for winter, heating and fuel use, and MTBE prices also dip in Q4 as gasoline prices fall. Justin Schneewind, senior pricing specialist and editor in charge of covering the US Gulf Coast MTBE market, talks with Colleen Barry-Goodman, managing editor for Americas petrochemicals: aromatics, solvents and intermediates, about demand for USGC MTBE from Latin America for the remainder of the year, how prices had recently dipped to nine-month lows, and likely availability of MTBE through Q4.

The following Platts assessments were discussed in this podcast:
Price Date
MTBE spot FOB USGC 165.70 - 165.80 /gal 10/23/2015
MTBE spot barge FOB ARA 552.75 - 553.25 US$/mt 10/23/2015
