Excess supply weighs on US aromatics prices, markets hope for more demand

April 27, 2016 (5:35 mins)

US benzene, toluene and mixed xylene prices have been pressured by excess supply, including benzene imports from Asia at the beginning of the year. John Calton, editor for US aromatics, digs into how expectations for the 2016 markets are differing from reality, including expectations of strong gasoline blending demand, styrene demand supported by continuous Asia buying, and market expectations for the beginning of the summer.

The following Platts assessment was discussed in this podcast:
Price Date
Benzene M1 spot FOB USGC 203.95 - 204.05 cents/gal 04/22/2016
Styrene M1 spot FOB USGC 46.75 - 47.25 cents/gal 04/22/2016
