New export tax looms for coal miners in Indonesia

Indonesia is planning to introduce a new tax on thermal coal exports at a time when miners are struggling to keep their cash flow intact amid weak demand and prices. Platts Asia thermal coal managing editor Deepak Kannan and associate editor Arusha Das analyze how this new tax could affect miners, and share the producers' reaction to the proposed tax. They also look at how the Indonesian government's new regulation on using local currency for inland transactions may affect profit margins.
