European renewable power output rises as German wind, UK solar boom

Wind turbines and solar panels in Europe's five biggest power markets generated 11% more electricity in H1 2015 than in the same period last year, data from Platts European Renewable Power Tracker shows. Platts European Power Daily editor Andreas Franke explains the trends behind the numbers and examines the impact the remarkable rise of renewables is having on conventional power generation.

Platts Renewable Power Tracker monitors output from wind and solar in Europe's five biggest power markets on a monthly basis as well as tracking new capacity installations with the Big 5 alone accounting for 76% of the EU's total wind and solar capacity and German wind and UK solar currently growing fastest.
