Seasonal demand lifts Newcastle 5,500 NAR thermal coal prices

Thermal coal prices have been in steady decline since the start of the year, with Newcastle 5,500 NAR prices faring worse than the rest of the coal grades from Australia. Platts senior editor Mike Cooper has, however, noted a rebound in Newcastle 5,500 NAR prices since last week. In this podcast, he talks to Deepak Kannan, managing editor for the Asian thermal coal market, about the factors that have helped to boost prices, India's demand for Australian thermal coal, as well as the developments in the talks for Japanese thermal coal supply contracts.
