Northeast US coal burn increased in March even as retirements will impact power gen mix

It seems Mother Nature decided to skip most of winter in the Northeast US this year, but a recent cold snap bumped up power and gas prices in March and the region's generation mix is still changing. Charles Noh and Eric Wieser, with the power pricing team, examine how day-ahead power prices were lifted by increased load and higher spot gas prices and how much more gas is expected in the region as coal units are slated to be retired.
