China's commodities basket has been generally bearish, yet ethanol imports have been bucking the trend. In 2015, the total volume of ethanol shipped to China reached close to 687,000 cu m, and exceeded the annual import requirements of Japan and the Philippines -- major ethanol importers in Asia. In this podcast, editor Toh Wei Zheng joins senior managing editor Julien Hall to explain the factors that drove China's ethanol imports last year, the sustainability of China's thirst for ethanol, as well as forces that could make the Chinese market less conducive for ethanol imports this year.
