Compania Espanola de Petroleos, S.A. operates in the oil and gas industry in Spain and internationally.
It engages in the exploration and production of crude oil; the production, refining, distribution, and marketing of petrochemical and energy products, asphalt, lubricants, and polymers; and the distribution of gas and generation of electricity.
The company's petroleum products include motor fuels, bunker fuel, propane, and marine and aviation fuel.
Compania Espanola also produces and sells linear paraffin and linear alkylbenzene, base stocks, greases, purified terephthalic acid, dimethyl terephthalate, and purified isophthalic acid, as well as produces chemical intermediates, such as cumene, phenol, and acetone.
In addition, the company offers methyl amines, alpha methyl styrene, and other derivatives, predominantly used in making plastics; basic chemical components, including propylene, solvents, benzene, toluene, and xylene; and markets liquefied petroleum gases and natural gas.
Further, it operated a retail network of 1,700 outlets in Spain and Portugal, as of December 31, 2004.
Compania Espanola principally operates two fields, which include the RKF and OURHOUD fields, located in Berkine Basin, Algeria; and on the offshore Mediterranean Casablanca field, located near the coast of Tarragona, Spain.
The company also conducts exploration activities in the Timimoun and Bechar basins located in southwestern and central-western regions of Algeria; on the Upper Magdalena River Valley, including the Espinal, San Jacinto, Rio Paez, and Achira blocks in Colombia; and in Egypt.
The company operates in various European countries, as well as in Algeria, Canada, Morocco, Brazil, and Panama.
