Hess Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the exploration, production, purchase, transportation, and sale of crude oil and natural gas.

It markets refined petroleum products to the motoring public, wholesale distributors, industrial and commercial users, other petroleum companies, governmental agencies, and public utilities.

The company also markets natural gas to utilities, and other industrial and commercial customers.

Further, it owns 50% of HOVENSA L.L.C, a refinery joint venture in the United States Virgin Islands, as well as a refining facility, terminals, and retail gasoline stations located on the East Coast of the United States.

As of December 31, 2005, the company's proved reserves included approximately 692 million barrels of crude oil and approximately 2,406 million Mcf of natural gas; and operated 1,354 HESS gasoline stations.

It operates in the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria, Gabon, Indonesia, Thailand, Azerbaijan, and Malaysia.

The company, formerly known as Amerada Hess Corporation, was founded in 1920 and changed its name to Hess Corporation in May 2006.

Hess Corporation is headquartered in New York City.
