Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) engages in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas, as well as in refining liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) principally in India.
The company owned approximately 30 exploration blocks covering an area of 300,000 square kilometers and 5 coal bed methane blocks covering an area of approximately 4,000 square kilometers, as of March 31, 2005.
Its petrochemical products include high and low density polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyester yarn, polyester fibers, purified terephthalic acid, paraxylene, ethylene glycol, olefins, aromatics, linear alkyl benzene, and polyethylene terephthalate.
RIL refines LPG, which is used as domestic and industrial fuel; propylene, used as feedstock for polypropylene; naphtha, used as feedstock for petrochemicals, such as ethylene, propylene, and fertilizers, as well as fuel in power plants; and gasoline, used as a transport fuel.
The company also refines jet/aviation turbine fuel/superior kerosene oil, which are used as aviation and domestic fuels; high speed diesel, used as transport fuel; sulphur, used as feedstock for fertilizers and pharmaceuticals; and petroleum coke, for power plants and cement plants.
In addition, it offers wet spun acrylic fiber for use in hosiery, dress material, and blanket; and dry spun acrylic fiber that is used in shawl, sportswear, sock, hosiery, and upholstery.
Further, the company provides a range of polyester products for use in apparel, home textile, automotive upholstery, sportswear and swimwear, and pillows and cushions, as well as in packaging water, soft drinks, pharmaceuticals, agro-chemicals, and food products.
Additionally, RIL offers fiber intermediates and textiles.
Reliance Industries was founded by Dhirubhai H. Ambani.
