ExxonMobil held its annual meeting with industry analysts on March 5 at the New York Stock Exchange.
I've covered the meeting several times and have always found it to be a very professionally-managed event. This week was no exception, as officials from ExxonMobil and the NYSE went out of their way to make sure the visiting reporters had everything at their disposal -- from phone lines and DSL connections to sandwiches, soft drinks and yummy-looking cookies.
In short, the folks could not have been more accommodating....at least until a few of us wire reporters approached CEO Rex Tillerson after his official briefing concluded in the press room.
It's standard operating procedure at these events for reporters to mosey over and toss a question or two at the CEO as he or she leaves the room. But whether it was subject matter -- Venezuela -- or Mr. Tillerson was very late for his next appointment, ExxonMobil officials quickly shut down the impromptu Q & A session and whisked the CEO away.
Too bad, because Rex seemed willing enough to give us a few moments of his time.

Yes, I know the feeling, and Rex could give us some news or important info about the new future of the oil or the company, etc. I know Rex personally, and maybe he would give us some, but the schedule and the info could be "non-programmable" on what to say.....Maybe more polite could be?Thanks.
