Obama and oil contributions

We've generally stayed away from the political battles of 2008, though that might get tougher as the nominating process moves on and the general election moves closer.

But The Barrel found this link interesting.

Without discussing much about Sen. Obama, we do want to point out that the item reminds of us an important fact that is often forgotten: corporations can't give money directly to a candidate. So a candidate boasting that he or she never took money from an oil company or a drug company or a tobacco company or a military company needs to put that into context: neither has anybody else.

Beyond that, the blog post on FactCheck.org, which has always been viewed as fairly non-partisan, asks some good questions about when a candidate is beholden, and to what degree, to a particular industry, like oil.
