More on the gas tax "holiday"

The federal gasoline tax "holiday" plan backed by presidential candidates Clinton and McCain have raised eyebrows, to say the least, in that the benefit to ordinary Americans would be scant.

But politics is politics, you might say.

The Barrel saw an amusing take on the proposal, on an alternative transportation blog called Streetsblog

The pendulum of public opinion may be finally turning toward conservation, which has been mostly ignored by politicians, or given summary lip service. Far easier to give a few bucks back to the consumer, than suggest their habits change.

Don't count on US car companies to lead the way either. An interesting article in the Wall Street Journal online edition Monday took a look at a car on the road today that meets US standards planned for 2011 and beyond.

Of course, it's made by Honda.
