Maybe we could put all the transmission lines on Ted Turner's ranch

Take it from Ted Turner and T. Boone Pickens: There would be nothing greater than having big transmission lines on your property.

Easy for billionaire land barons to say, maybe. But on CNN's Anderson Cooper360 the other day they seemed to have made a little Public Service Announcement encouraging landowners everywhere to take a similar view.

How can we encourage people, especially landowners, who oppose transmission lines -- or the smart grid, as Pickens called them -- to get behind them? The two asked themselves this question. Turner's answer: Not only will the lines take renewable power to market, but they will also be a moneymaker for the landowner. "The best investment we can make," Turner said.

Pickens asked Turner what he would think if that smart grid came across his 2-million-acre ranch. "I'm going to look forward to it," Turner said, "because it's going to be a big advantage to have the grid come over your property. Bring it on."

"OK, let 'er rip," Pickens replied. It's just good business.
