New Chilton analogy seems green in the gills

Bart Chilton, arguably the most outspoken member of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, has once again come up with one of his infamous analogies relating pop culture to commodity markets -- this time equating the need to meld business operations and environmental stewardship with an episode of the popular 1990s US sitcom Seinfeld.

At a speech in Chicago on Thursday, Chilton said, "It reminds of the Seinfeld 'Dinner Party' episode where Jerry says to Elaine, 'The thing about eating the black and white cookie is you want to get some black and some white in each bite. Nothing mixes better than vanilla and chocolate. If people would only look to the cookie,' he says, 'all our problems would be solved.' Today, good business and good environmental policies go together -- like the black and white cookie."

Unfortunately, it seems Chilton might not have watched through to the end of the episode, as the great black and white cookie of harmony ultimately makes Jerry Seinfeld sick to his stomach.

"I think I've got David Duke and Farrakhan down there," Jerry later comments to Elaine before he exits and ends his personal record, where he lasted 14 years without vomiting.

As it relates to green initiatives and business ... perhaps it's best not to extend this analogy similarly.
