Jet fuel and kerosene stocks in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp and Ghent trading hub decreased 2.07% week ending Thursday, data from PJK International showed Friday.

Jet fuel and kerosene levels fell to 614,000 mt from 627,000 mt the previous week, the lowest in five months.

The resurgence of the backwardation in the European jet fuel market was serving to discourage traders from buying product to store.

The reappearance of the backwardation stemmed from a globally bullish jet fuel market which resulted in three-year highs in the CIF NWE cargo market at the start of the month.

Strong demand in the US and the Far East, combined with a heavy maintenance season on the horizon, were serving to boost premiums and create significant competition for spare arbitrage barrels. As a result, Europe was pricing up, against a backdrop of low stocks.
