IAG's February airline passenger total up 8.5% on year to 7.096 million

London (Platts)--5Mar2018/1136 am EST/1636 GMT

Airlines British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling carried a total of 7.096 million passengers worldwide in February, up 8.5% on the year, parent company International Airlines Group said Monday.

Europe produced IAG's largest regional percentage increase, with passenger numbers up 9.1% to 3.679 million, it said.

There were increases across all regions except Asia Pacific, which had no change in passenger numbers year on year.

The group's revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) -- a proxy for traffic demand calculated by multiplying the number of passengers by distance traveled -- increased 5.8% year-on-year to 17.356 billion km in February.

RPKs grew in all four airlines within IAG in February. RPKs rose 17% at Vueling, 10.9% at Iberia, 6.6% at Aer Lingus, and 1.8% at British Airways.
