Mark Bodner, President, MB Consulting, LLC

Mark Bodner

Mark has over 34 years of experience in the aluminum industry. He began his career after receiving his MBA degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Business in New York, where he majored in international business and marketing. His first metals job was as a junior metals trader at Philipp Brothers (NY). In November 1975, he joined the newly created primary aluminum trading department of Gerald Metals, Inc. (NY) where he began developing an international physical trading position. Over the next 16 years, he successfully built a major network of trading accounts, and Gerald Metals became one of the leading primary aluminum traders in the world. In 1992, he joined Metallurg Inc. (NY). He was responsible for price risk management and hedging on the London Metal Exchange and purchasing of prime aluminum for the four divisions of Metallurg, including Shieldalloy Inc. and Ampal in the USA, and ALPOCO and Scandinavian Metallurgical in the United Kingdom. Aluminum Silicon Marketing GmbH recruited him as Vice President in 1994, responsible for Russian aluminum export sales and LME hedging. He was then appointed Sales Director at RUSAL AMERICA CORP., responsible for North American sales and trading. Since retiring in 2008 as Sales Director and senior trader at RUSAL, he has actively consulted for many investment firms and hedge funds focused on the aluminum industry.

Bryan Eagle, Director of Operations, Dynamic Recycling

Bryan currently serves as the Director of Operations at Dynamic Recycling, a progressive electronics recycler. He has worked more than 25 years for Alcoa, Inc. in all phases of the aluminum industry including bauxite mining, alumina refining, and aluminum smelting, fabricating, recycling and complex assembly operations. He has a wide background in operations management, engineering, finance, procurement, corporate development and all phases of acquisitions and divestitures, having worked in multiple locations with responsibilities spanning the globe. Bryan left his Alcoa career to found his consultancy early in 2013. His key value propositions include his passion for operational excellence, deep commitment to teaching and developing people, ability to skillfully execute value enhancements, and creativity to find holistic solutions to complex problems. Bryan holds Master’s Degrees in Management and Materials Science and Engineering from MIT, a Master’s Degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Washington.

Fred Demler, Risk Management Consultant, Demler Hedge Advisory

Fred Demler

Fred is the head of Demler Hedge Advisory following years of extensive experience at INTL FCStone, MF Global, PaineWebber, Drexel Burnham. and Exxon Minerals. He has a Ph.D. and a B.S. in Mineral Economics from the Pennsylvania State University where he was an instructor, and did post-graduate research for the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Fred has been on a variety of advisory boards at the LME, a director of the American Copper Council and Copper Club, and is a Penn State Fellow. He writes and teaches workshops on various aspects of the commodities markets including price-risk management, forecasting, and hedging. He travels and lectures domestically and internationally.

Martin Hartlieb, President, VIAMI International, Inc.

After earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Industrial Engineering and Economics at the University of Stuttgart (Germany), Martin started his career in 1995 in Germany and then in Spain at Behr GmbH & Co KG. In 2000 he joined Alcan Inc. first in Markt Schwaben (Germany), where he was in charge of Sales and Engineering of their Engineered Shaped Products Division. In 2003, he was transferred to Montreal, Canada to take over the global market development for Alcan (later Rio Tinto Alcan), where he conducted market studies, launched new alloys, products and technologies, and developed new international markets. He subsequently also held positions in Marketing and Product Management at Rio Tinto Alcan. During this time he became a recognized aluminum industry expert and speaker at many conferences and seminars around the globe. Since 2012 he is working full time in his own company, Viami International Inc., where he works with a number of different producers of aluminum alloys in developing international markets, launching new products and process technologies. He offers consulting and training in sourcing of aluminum, equipment, and technologies as well as process improvement. His company also represents various producers of innovative technologies in the aluminum sector in Canada.

Tim Potter, CPA, Hedge Accounting Manager, HedgeStar

Tim Potter

Tim is the manager of the hedge accounting group with HedgeStar. He is responsible for delivery of hedge accounting services and all accounting related deliverables to HedgeStar’s clients. He is a subject matter expert in hedge accounting and compliance regulations. He is also responsible for establishing best practices and internal controls and delivering training. His background includes working for PricewaterhouseCoopers, TCF Bank, and Pine River Capital Management. Tim holds a BA in Accounting and Business Administration from the University of Jamestown, and an MS in Accountancy from the University of St. Thomas-Opus College of Business. He earned his CPA accreditation in 2008.

Preston L. Gibson, Head of Global Training, S&P Global Platts

Preston L. Gibson

Preston graduated Grove City College in 1981 majoring in Communication Arts and Religion. He started his career in 1980 as a reporter for WWIZ-FM radio. After moving to Pittsburgh, PA and working with KQV All-News Radio he took a sales position with American Metal Market newspaper in 1985. Taking on increasing leadership roles, he was promoted to Sales Manager, then Sales Director and finally Director of Sales and Marketing. He was responsible for AMM’s launch on the internet with, the first metals news publication to go online. In 2007, he joined Steel Business Briefing and opened the North American commercial office in Pittsburgh where he was appointed VP Sales and Advertising. Since the purchase of Steel Business Briefing by McGraw Hill Financial Inc. in July 2011, he has been the Head of Global Training for S&P Global Platts.
