Aron Sørensen, Head of Maritime Technology and Regulation, BIMCO

Aron Sørensen

Aron Sørensen holds the position as Head of the Maritime Technology and Regulation and is responsible for BIMCO’s technical affairs. He manages BIMCO’s role in marine, operational and related regulatory matters at a number of international organizations such as IMO, ISO, IACS and IHO. His tasks include negotiating, monitoring and disseminating relevant conventions and assisting in the development of international standards, regional/national requirements, and assessing the impact on BIMCO members. Following a career at sea as a deck officer, Aron Sørensen taught apprentice deck officers at the Nautical Institute in Denmark. After some years of teaching, he joined the Danish Maritime Authority dealing with navigation safety in Danish waters. In 2008, he joined BIMCO, which is a shipping association providing a wide range of services to its global membership of stakeholders, who have vested interests in the shipping industry, including shipowners, operators, managers, brokers and agents.

Robin Meech, Managing Director, Marine and Energy Consulting

Robin Meech

Robin Meech is Managing Director of Marine and Energy Consulting, an independent consultancy practice focusing on the marine industry with an emphasis on the transport of energy. He has a particular interest in the bunker sector where he has undertaken assignments for ship owners, the Majors as well as independent traders and national oil companies. He advises companies in the bunker sector on environmental issues, forming alliances, purchasing strategies, organisation, new business ventures, credit insurance, logistics, IT systems and e-business. Robin Meech has comprehensive experience in environmental issues having been a member of IMO Steering Committee advising to the introduction of the global cap in 2020. He is co-author of the book “Bunkers – An Analysis of the Technical and Environmental Issues”.

Shim Sang In, Global Managing Director, OceanConnect Marine

Shim Sang In

Sang In Shim joined OceanConnect in 2002 as Director of Asia Operations and became Managing Director of OceanConnect Marine in 2011. A 1979 graduate of the Korea Merchant Marine Academy with a B.A in ship engineering, S.I. spent two years sailing with Sammi Line as a 3rd/2nd engineer, followed by three years with Sammi Line as assistant manager of operations and fuel purchasing. In 1984 S.I. joined Pan Ocean Shipping as manager of the Bunker Section and later joined Bunkerfuels as area director for the Far East, where he built Korea's first international marine fuel supply business and became well-known as one of Asia's most respected fuel experts. The strong team S.I. built at Bunkerfuels left to join him at OceanConnect Korea in 2002. Glencore has acquired Oceanconnect in 2011 then changed name to OceanconnectMarine which is marine fuel oil trading arm under the Glencore.

Nitin Mathur, Group Managing Director, Wallem Singapore

Nitin Mathur

Nitin has more than 20 years' experience in shipping. He is a Master Mariner and holds an MBA specialising in maritime business and logistics management. Nitin is currently the Managing Director of Wallem Group Singapore providing maritime solutions to clients such as ship management, ship agency and commercial services. Prior to this role, Nitin was Managing Director, Wallem Commercial Services which provides asset management, commercial management, cargo management and maritime investment solutions. Nitin is well experienced in chartering and operations of gas tankers, oil tankers, product tankers, cement carriers and bulk carriers and in charter party dispute resolution and management of operational risks.

Ellen Ruhotas, Managing Director, Ratio Group

Ellen Ruhotas

Ms. Ruhotas has over 25 years of experience in Engineering, Safety and General Operational Management. She has Board and Operational level experience in the terminals sector including expertise in all aspects of Terminal Operations for a full range of products as well as in-depth engineering design, construction and project management of all aspects of chemical, LPG and petroleum storage systems. Ms. Ruhotas also has extensive experience working in China, forming, developing and managing joint ventures, working with Chinese shareholders, customers and government authorities and suppliers. Previously, Ms. Ruhotas was the Regional Director for Stolthaven Terminals in Asia-Pacific and General Manager Stolthaven China (Stolt Nielsen group). Prior to Stolt, Ms. Ruhotas was General Manager with Pacific Terminals Australia and China, Operations Manager with Email Limited (Petroleum Division) and Engineering Services Manager with BP Australia Limited. Ms. Ruhotas received a Bachelor of Engineering - Mechanical/Industrial from the University of New South Wales, graduating with First Class Honours. She also received a MBA and Bachelor of Law from Macquarie University and graduated with First Class Honours.

Robert Maxwell, Managing Director, Bernhard Schulte Ship Management

Robert Maxwell

Bob has been in the shipping industry for over 35 years including 20 years at sea, 9 of which were as a Chief Engineer Officer. Since then he has worked in ship management in Cyprus and the UK and is now managing a fleet of 100+ vessels for BSM in Singapore. During that time Bob has moved from the out and out engineering side of the shipping industry into the multi-faceted world of total ship management. Bob has wide experience in the oil and chemical tanker, gas carrier, bulk & container sectors as well as in the development and implementation of ship management IT systems. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology and the Institution of Shipbuilders and Engineers in Scotland. Bob is also a member of the IMarEST Technical Leadership Board, and of the Singapore Shipping Association, International Committee. He is also non executive chairman of MAREST.

Mike Beviss, Director Special Projects, Eastport Maritime

Mike Beviss

Mike Beviss is a Master Mariner and the Director of Special Projects at Eastport Maritime Pte Ltd where he specializes in storage & logistic consultancy for the maritime bulk liquid industry. Mike has been working in the Marine Industry for over 40 years, at sea, ashore as a Port Captain, in ship operations & chartering and in bulk liquid storage. Previous positions include VP of Sales & Marketing both in Asia and in Europe for an international shipping & storage company with 8 operating bulk liquid terminals where he found synergies between the ships and the terminals, standardized commercial policies, promoted best practices and was actively involved in terminal business development, due diligence etc. both in Europe and Asia. He also spent five years as the Head of the commercial department for the largest independent terminal in Europe. Having knowledge on Petroleum, Vegetable oils and Chemicals he now provides commercial advisory services for shipping and terminals both new and existing. He is a regular Speaker at shipping and storage conferences and a course director and lecturer on “Bulk liquid storage related workshops for Global Port Forum. He has also been a guest lecturer at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and at the Singapore Management University (SMU) in Singapore on Logistics & Supply Chain Management. He has lived and worked in Asia for 16 years. Recent work includes a comprehensive marketing study for a Port Authority in the Mediterranean and commercial advisory services for three new bulk liquid terminal projects in SE Asia.

Neeraj Joshi, Global Bulk Operations Manager, China Navigation Co.

Neeraj Joshi

Currently working as Global Bulk Operations Manager for China Navigation Company, Pte. Ltd., Capt. Joshi heads the post fixture operations team, in charge of a fleet of about 75 handy-size log-carriers and other types of bulk carriers. Before this Capt. Joshi was the Head of Bulk Operations at Navig8 Pte. Ltd. for nearly 5 years, having started the Bulk Pool operations from the scratch. His sea-going career spanned across 17 years, of which the last four were in command as a Master.

Justin Tan, Procurement Manager, Bunker, China Navigation Co.

Justin Tan

Mr Justin Tan is the Procurement Manager, Bunker for The China Navigation Company Pte Ltd (CNCo), part of Swire Group. Justin manages the bunker procurement process in CNCo. He also leads bunker hedge management efforts, utilizing dynamic hedging strategies to manage bunker risk. Prior to joining CNCo, Justin was associated with Scorpio Bulk and Western Bulk, involved in bunker trading and hedge management.

Parikshit Jhaveri, Voyage Manager, Teekay

Parikshit Jhaveri

Parikshit has been with Teekay for more than 15 years, starting of as a marine engineer on merchant vessels especially product carriers, oil tankers and last sailed on LNG carriers as 1st Engineer before moving ashore. For the past three years he has been working at TK Singapore office as a voyage manager, as part of commercial and bunkering team. His daily responsibilities include handing vessel commercial operations and procurement of bunkers across the fleet of approximately 160 vessels running across the world. Parikshit has a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelors in General Law (LLB) and is qualified as a Class 1 Chief Engineer, UK.

Oliver Yasuhito Imaizumi, Team Leader, Bunker Team, Sumitomo Corporation

Oliver Yasuhito Imaizumi

Oliver Yasuhito Imaizumi is Team leader of Bunker Team at Sumitomo Corporation in Japan since 2014. He has worked in the bunker and fuel oil industry since 2000. He leads conventional bunker oil business and also engaging in LNG bunkering. He was transferred to Petro Summit Pte Ltd in Singapore from 2008 to 2014 as a Team Leader of Bunker & Fuel Oil Team. He has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Gakushuin University.

Tan Ying, Fuel Oil Trader, Sinopec Fuel Oil

Tan Ying is a fuel oil trader of Sinopec Fuel Oil(Singapore) Pte Ltd. Started career in 2007, Tan Ying has been recognized as a well experienced fuel oil trader for Sinopec and China bunker market where she pursue and respond the call of Chinese government fuel policies.

Chris Chatterton, Chief Operating Officer, Methanol Institute

Chris Chatterton

Mr. Chatterton has more than 20 years of professional experience as a C-level director of companies located in Ukraine, Singapore, Russia, and Kazakhstan. He has particular expertise in creating and developing new operations within the energy, bio-fuels, and agricultural sectors. He has led efforts to develop crude in Western Siberia, traded palm oil from South East Asia to the UK and Netherlands for biodiesel production, pioneered the privatization of Russia’s power generation market, and led acquisitions for petrol station networks as well as renewable energy technologies including fuels cells and heat pumps. Mr. Chatterton’s career includes having served as regional CEO for D1 Oils PLC Asia Pacific based in Singapore. In this capacity, he oversaw the company’s operations in eight markets in China and Southeast Asia. He managed 12 direct and 50 indirect staff, and more than 1,000 contractors and was instrumental in setting up a global joint venture and securing two additional financial offerings totaling US$52 million. During the interview process, Mr. Chatterton demonstrated an excellent understanding of global energy and petrochemical industry dynamics. He also has an entrepreneurial approach to business development that will be well suited to MI’s efforts to expand methanol markets and membership, particularly in the Asia Pacific, Central Asia and Middle East regions. Mr. Chatterton looks to have a management style that is well-suited to a small trade association like MI.

Kwok Fook Sing, Associate Partner, BS Academy

Fook Sing is the Director, Academy of International Maritime Studies Pte. Ltd. He holds a Master of Science, Maritime Studies, from Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore); Marine Engineer, Certificate of Competency Marine Engineer Officer Class I (Motor Ship), Government of Singapore Independent Training Consultant, ACTA, Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ).

Anoop Singh, Regional Head – Tanker Research (E. of Suez), Braemar ACM Shipbroking

Anoop Singh

Anoop Singh is regional head of tanker research for Braemar ACM Shipbroking. Braemar is a leading international provider of knowledge and skill-based services to the shipping, marine, energy, offshore and insurance industries. Based in Singapore, he manages client interface and research requirements in the east of Suez region. He joined Braemar ACM in 2016 as the senior analyst responsible for crude and clean tankers research. Prior to joining Braemar ACM, Anoop headed the strategy development and performance management team for AET tankers, a Petronas group company. Anoop holds a degree in economics and is a certified master mariner.

Yaw Yan Chong, Director (Asia), Thomson Reuters

Yaw Yan Chong

Yaw Yan Chong is the Director of Thomson Reuters Oil Research & Forecasts in Asia, part of its Commodities Research & Forecast division. He is also the inspiration behind the Asia Oil Flows Assessment Module, that provides fundamental assessments of cargo flows across the oil barrel to and from demand and supply regions, after having learnt the fundamentals of Supply & Demand in the more than 10 years that he has been in the oil industry, starting out as a Price Editor in Platts, being an Energy Correspondent with Reuters and also having spent some time as a Trading Analyst in Merrill Lynch.
