CS Brazil H2 March hydrous ethanol output at 445 mil liters, up 79% on year: UNICA

Houston (Platts)--11 Apr 2018 541 am EDT/941 GMT

Brazil's Center-South region produced 445 million liters of hydrous ethanol in the second half of March, up 79% year on year and an 82% increase from 244 million liters produced the first fifteen days of March, Brazil sugarcane growers association UNICA said Tuesday.

CS mills were encouraged to increase ethanol output by record high hydrous prices in the inter-crop season and steady sales.

S&P Global Platts assessed hydrous ethanol ex-mill Ribeirao Preto at a record high of Real 2,320/cu m in the March 13-16 period, the highest level since the assessment was launched in April 2014.

Cumulative ethanol production in the 2017-2018 season reached 26.09 billion liters, up 1.72% from 25.65 billion liters recorded in the previous season.

From the total ethanol output, 10.42 billion liters were diverted to anhydrous and 15.67 billion liters to hydrous ethanol, with the latter up 4.49% from the 14.99 billion liters produced in the previous crop.

UNICA also said that in H2 March, the amount of anhydrous ethanol that was reprocessed into hydrous reached 72 million liters.
