Coal stocks held by China's six key power plants slide 3% on week to 14.35 million mt

Hunan, China (Platts)--5 Apr 2018 510 am EDT/910 GMT

Combined coal stocks held by China's six key coal-fired power generators in the south and east of the country totaled 14.347 million mt on April 5, down 2.7% from 14.74 million mt on March 29, according to data released Thursday by port operator Qinhuangdao Port.

The six key power generators are: Zhejiang Power, Shanghai Power, Guodian, Datang, Huaneng and Guangdong Power, which is better known as Yudean.

Based on the current coal consumption rate, the stocks are able to cover 20.8 days of consumption at the six power plants, down by 1.7 days week on week, the data showed.

Average coal consumption at the six power generators stood at 690,000 mt/day on April 5, up 5.2% from 656,000 mt/day on March 29, data from the port operator showed.

A slight rise in consumption rates of coal at the power plants has resulted in a small drop in the number of coverage days and in the coal stocks at the power plants, the port operator said.
