Ukraine's reserves of coal at thermal power plants fell 2.6% over the past month to 1.47 million mt Monday, the energy and coal industry ministry said Monday.

Reserves of anthracite at power plants dropped 8.9% to 601,100 mt, while stocks of thermal coal rose 1.4% to 866,700 mt.

Ukraine's power plants had 1.58 million mt of coal in warehouses as of Monday, including 805,000 mt of anthracite.

Separately, inventories at the warehouses of regional heat producers fell 3.3% month on month to 245,900 mt.

Reserves of anthracite increased to 197,700 mt from 188,200 mt, while stocks of thermal coal dropped to 48,200 mt from 66,500 mt.

Inventories declined as demand for coal increased over the past four days following a spell of freezing weather.

The air temperature was expected to drop further to about 20 degrees Celsius below zero in most parts of Ukraine later this week with heavy snowfalls expected in central regions of the country, according to the state emergency situations service.
