Dutch, German near-term natural gas prices steady

Dutch and German near-term gas contracts traded sideways in Wednesday morning trade, after large weather-related falls on the spot and month-ahead contracts at the start of the week.

  • TTF spot flat at Eur20.15/MWh
  • Dutch draws drop to 106 mil cu m/d
  • Norwegian flows below 120 mil cu/d mark

Dutch TTF day-ahead value for Thursday delivery traded unchanged compared with Tuesday's close at Eur20.15/MWh.

The corresponding German NetConnect contract was down 15 euro cent/MWh at Eur20.075/Mwh, while GASPOOL spot was down 7.5 euro cent/MWh to Eur19.725/MWh.

CustomWeather forecast the temperature in Berlin to jump to 3 degrees Celsius above seasonal norms Thursday, from 1 C below norms Wednesday, while Munich was to stay at seasonal norms Thursday.

Amsterdam was also forecast to remain unchanged Thursday at 3 C above seasonal norms.

Platts Analytics Eclipse Energy forecast demand in Germany dropping to 338.1 million cu m Thursday, from 348.1 million cu m Wednesday, while Dutch demand was to stay almost unchanged at 136.1 million cu m Thursday, from 135.6 million cu m Wednesday.

Net withdrawals out of the Dutch storage system dropped off Wednesday, nominated at 106 million cu m/d around 1100 GMT, compared with 137 million cu m seen at a similar time Tuesday, according to Platts Analytics.

Norwegian flows to Emden-Dornum on the Dutch/German boarder were seen around 119 million cu m/d around midday London time, lower than the 123 million cu m/d seen at a similar time Tuesday, according to Gassco data.

Total Norwegian pipeline imports into Europe continued to tick lower, nominated at 294 million cu m Wednesday, from 296 million cu m Tuesday and 303 million cu m Monday, according to Platts Analytics.

The front-month contracts were also traded largely flat as Dutch TTF contract rose 10 euro cent/MWh to Eur20.075/MWh, NCG rose 7.5 euro cent/MWh to Eur20.025/MWh and GASPOOL was heard at a bid/offer spread of Eur19.50-19.575/MWh.
