TTF natural gas liquidity hits five-month high in August: Gasunie

London (Platts)--14 Sep 2017 902 am EDT/1302 GMT

Traded volume on the Dutch TTF natural gas hub rose to its highest in five months during August, with the churn rate for the hub remaining at elevated levels, data from Gasunie showed Thursday.

  • 1,771 TWh traded on OTC, exchanges combined last month
  • Up 10% on month and 8% higher on year
  • Churn rate in August steady at 58, 139 active parties

TTF liquidity, which includes both over-the-counter and exchange volumes, in August rose 10% month on month and 8% year on year to 1,771 TWh, the highest level since March.

Nonetheless, year-to-date TTF traded volume remained 4% lower than in 2016, with a total of 13,938 TWh recorded in January-August this year from 14,463 TWh in the first eight months of 2016.

Gas throughput via the hub increased to 30 TWh, meaning the TTF churn rate was in line with the past few months at 58 -- a hub with a churn rate of 10 or above is generally regarded as liquid.

The number of active parties trading on the TTF hub was unchanged from July at 139, lower than the record high of 144 seen in May.
