Japan's JXTG shuts 24% of installed refining capacity for maintenance

Tokyo (Platts)--15 May 2018 1101 pm EDT/301 GMT

Japan's largest refiner JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy has shut a combined 468,000 b/d, or 24% of its refining capacity, for scheduled maintenance, according to S&P Global Platts calculations based on company information.

JXTG on Tuesday shut the sole 136,000 b/d crude distillation unit at the Oita refinery in southwestern Japan for scheduled maintenance.

It was not immediately clear whether JXTG will add more scheduled refinery maintenance programs in June.

The current refinery turnarounds will last until the end of June.

In addition to Oita, JXTG on Sunday shut the 162,000 b/d CDU at the Kashima refinery on the east coast for scheduled maintenance.

The 170,000 b/d No. 2 CDU at the Kawasaki refinery in Tokyo Bay was shut on May 10 for scheduled maintenance.

JXTG, which holds roughly half of Japan's domestic oil products market share, is also a major exporter of middle distillates and gasoline.
