Braskem suffers process upset at Texas polypropylene plant: filing

Houston (Platts)--5 Dec 2016 623 pm EST/2323 GMT

US polypropylene producer Braskem America suffered a process upset this weekend at its polypropylene facility in Freeport, Texas, a filing with state regulators showed.

The upset at the 320,000 mt/year Texas facility happened Saturday when a leak occurred during a transfer process, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The company reported flaring 10,000 lbs of propylene.

"Maximum time from the start of the release to blocking in was estimated to be less than 10 minutes," Braskem America said.

A company spokeswoman could not be reached for comment on the status of operations.

S&P Global Platts assessed US polypropylene Monday at $915-$937 (41.5-42.5 cents/lb) FAS Houston for homopolymer injection-grade.
