Dardanelles closed to tankers on March 16 for Turkish Navy celebrations

London (Platts)--13 Mar 2018 511 pm EDT/2111 GMT

The Dardanelles, at the southern end of the Turkish Straits, will be closed to tanker traffic from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm local time on March 16 for Turkish Navy celebrations taking place in the area, shipping agents said.

Delays through the straits are currently estimated at three days northbound and three days southbound but a day's closure could slightly stretch out delays in the region, according to shipping agents.

The Bosporus and the Dardanelles to the south together form the Turkish straits, the only commercially navigable transit route between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.
