'Sanctions can work': Obama's top energy diplomat on the nuances of US oil, gas policy

August 21, 2017 (14:56 mins)

Brian Scheid and Meghan Gordon

US energy sanctions are back in the news with Russia and Venezuela, so senior oil editors Brian Scheid and Meghan Gordon talk to someone who's been there, done that: Amos Hochstein, President Barack Obama's top energy diplomat. Hochstein, who served as Obama’s special envoy and coordinator of international energy affairs, talks about why sanctions on Venezuelan crude oil may not work, why Russian sanctions have worked and the future of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

This is the first of a two part interview with Hochstein, and the next Capitol Crude episode will cover Iran and OPEC.
