Capitol Crude: The US Oil Policy Podcast

If US reimposes sanctions, Iran's major oil consumers could sway success

October 02, 2017 (25:46 mins)

Brian Scheid and Meghan Gordon

What happens if the US reimposes sanctions on Iran's oil sector without the support of Europe, China and Russia — all big players in the international energy landscape? Elizabeth Rosenberg, director of the energy economics and security program at the Center for New American Security, talks with Capitol Crude about the possible implications.

Rosenberg, a former Treasury Department adviser on sanctions, tells senior oil editors Meghan Gordon and Brian Scheid that it would be difficult to enforce reimposed sanctions. Further, it could damage the US' economic leverage on a global stage, especially in light of other sanction situations, such as with North Korea, Russia and Venezuela.

See excerpts of Rosenberg's conversation in this story.
