Platts editor worldsteel 'Journalist of the Year' finalist

London - October 03, 2017

S&P Global Platts' Diana Kinch is among the finalists for the World Steel Association's 8th annual Steelie Awards, the Brussels-based organization announced Tuesday.

Kinch, who serves as editor-in-chief of Platts' Steel Markets Daily and Insights series, joins steel journalists from organizations including the Financial Times, Bloomberg and Nikkei Asian Review in the short list for Journalist of the Year honors.

The category is one of seven in which worldsteel recognizes top industry performers -- from innovation of the year to excellence in sustainability and education and training. Among the company finalists are British Steel, Qatar Steel, Tata Steel, thyssenkrupp AG, voestalpine AG, JSW Steel, POSCO, Nucor Corp, ArcelorMittal Tubarao, Usiminas, China Baowu Steel Group and Baotou Iron & Steel.

The Steelie winners of each category will be revealed at worldsteel's annual dinner during the 2017 General Assembly in Brussels on October 16.

The selection process for the shortlist of finalists varies between awards, but in most cases includes submissions from member committees and the worldsteel extranet, the organization said. Entries are then judged by an expert panel using agreed performance criteria. Journalist of the Year is selected by direct vote.

Worldsteel members account for about 85% of global steel output and include more than 160 steel producers, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.
